Year 2 Home Learning
Year 2 Home Learning
Due to school closures, we have put together a learning pack that has a range of activities for the children to choose from. Hopefully we have provided enough activities for the duration of the closure, however we will add and update the resources as required. The Home-Learning sheet contains other activities to supplement the following.
Reading
Reading is a very important skill to foster and develop in Year Two. It is important that all children continue to read daily or at least 3 times a week. Please use the interactive resource ‘Bug Club’ that has many books to access as well as follow-on activities.
We have included a range of 60 second reading activities with a guidance card for your information. These activities will help develop fluency and comprehension skills.
There are further online activities via Twinkl (see below)
Writing
We have included some creative writing prompts for the children to use. There are also links on the Home-Learning sheet to support their writing. The link to Pobble 365 provides you with a picture stimulus and writing activity ideas. Another online resource is Literacy Shed that links to Key Stage 1 expectations in writing. Short animations are used to captivate their attention and motivate them to write.
There are further online activities via Twinkl (see below)
Mathematics
In the pack you will find Maths Mats (Year 2 Spring 1 Activity Mat) that include questions covering all Year 2 mathematical concepts. Children should continue to practice counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s, there number fluency (recalling number bonds* to 10 and 20)
Games, such as Snakes and Ladders, dominoes and any card games, are great ways to practice maths in a fun way.
There are further online activities via Twinkl (see below)
* Number bonds are 2 parts of a whole number e.g. 4 + 5 = 9, 6 + 5 = 11, etc. Knowing these will help children solve a range of problems, encouraging them to make connections e.g. 40 + 50 =90.
Science
We have included resources around ‘plants’ (in the form of a science booklet), the topic we have just started this term. The activities will encourage children to explore plants and gain a deeper understanding.

Children’s University
Included in the pack are activities promoted by Children’s University ‘Spring Challenge 202’. These activities gain credit towards their graduation. Where suggested evidence is in the form of photographs, these can be uploaded to your child’s class email. The email addresses are:
Class 7 – class7homelearningselfie@forefieldinfant.sefton.school
Class 8 – class8homelearningselfie@forefieldinfant.sefton.school
Class 9 – class9homelearningselfie@forefieldinfant.sefton.school
